ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Ezrah Ray and Amber Swan, Neah Bay girls basketball

Ezrah Ray and Amber Swan leave quite the legacy at Neah Bay High School. The pair are two of the senior leaders for the Neah Bay girls basketball team that just won its second straight state championship.

Ray wasn’t able to play for the Red Devils in their championship games in 2022 and 2023 (they lost in a close game in 2022) because of a torn ACL. She was able to play this year, battling through a shoulder injury all year and was a big contributor. Ray scored 15 points in Neah Bay’s 67-34 semifinal win over Crosspoint. She only scored seven points in the 39-28 championship win over Mount Vernon Christian, but more importantly was tasked with defending the Hurricanes’ big 6-foot-1 post Allie Heino, holding her to just seven points.

Swan scored 22 points against Crosspoint and added seven rebounds and six assists, leading the Red Devils in all categories. She led Neah Bay in scoring again in the championship game against MVC with 13 points, pouring in 11 points in the second half.

Swan and fellow senior Ryana Moss have the unique accomplishment of playing in four state championship games — three for the Neah Bay basketball team and one for the volleyball team.
