ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Conner Demorest, Sloan Tumaua, Forks wrestling

The Forks wrestling team had a remarkable performance at the 1B/2B Region 1 meet this week.

The Spartans came away from regional with four weight champions, and 11 boys and girls who finished in the top three of their various weight divisions.

Hayden Queen at 182 pounds and Jake Weakley at 145 have been virtually unbeatable all year at the 1B/2B level. They’ve both been featured before as Athletes of the Week.

Joining this dynamic pair are two new regional champs for the Spartans — Conner Demorest at 120 pounds and Sloan Tumaua at 220 pounds. Demorest, a junior, won with a pin and a 15-0 major decision while Tumaua, still just a sophomore, won with a pair of pins and an 11-5 decision.

Forks as a team won regional and is expected to place at the state championships coming up this weekend. Demorest, Tumaua and the rest of the Forks team will be busy at the Tacoma Dome seeing how much damage they can do this year in the first Mat Classic since 2020.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swains General Store in Port Angeles.
