ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Zeke Schmadeke, Sequim football

What an amazing opening week for Sequim football player Zeke Schmadeke.

Schmadeke, who was big as a receiver and kick returner for Sequim last year, did it all for the Wolves Friday night in their 35-26 win over Forks. He ran 22 times for 174 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored a pair of two-point conversions for 16 total points.

He also threw 5-for-7 as the quarterback for 50 yards and added a touchdown pass. He even caught a pass for 16 yards. All told, Schmadeke accounted for 240 yards of offense from scrimmage for the Wolves. Along with senior Liam Wiker, the pair accounted for 280 yards on the ground and four rushing touchdowns.

Schmadeke and the Wolves look to keep up their momentum, taking on a 2A powerhouse in Franklin Pierce at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Sequim.
