ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Wyatt Dunning, Port Angeles basketball

Port Angeles’ Wyatt Dunning has already served notice that he’s going to be a force to reckon with this season.

Leading a shorthanded team against Foss, Dunning erupted for 30 points and 16 rebounds in his opening game of the season. He hit four 3-pointers, including a clutch shot from beyond the arc in the final half minute to help the Roughriders come from six points down in the last minute to win 61-60.

According to Roughriders’ coach Kasey Ulin, Dunning had a couple of 40-point games during summer league games this year. With solid size of at least 6-foot-5 and a great outside touch, he’s going to a be a defensive challenge for Roughrider opponents all year.
