ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Sean Bitegeko, Neah Bay basketball

Sean Bitegeko

Sean Bitegeko

Sean Bitegeko had one of the most dominating performances you will see in a basketball game, leading Neah Bay to a 66-44 Tri-District 1B Tournament win over Tulalip that qualified the Red Devils for the state 1B Regionals.

Bitegeko had Bill Russell-like numbers with 24 points on 7 for 10 shooting from the floor and 26 rebounds.

Those weren’t even his best stats. Bitegeko also was a perfect 10 for 10 from the free-throw line. All while committing one personal foul himself. Bitegeko added 15 points and 13 rebounds in a loss to Muckleshoot in a playoff game was essentially just for regionals seeding. So, in two Tri-District 1B games, he averaged 19.5 points and 19.5 rebounds.

Bitegeko and his balanced 15-7 Neah Bay team will begin play in the 1B regionals Friday or Saturday.
