ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Riley Pyeatt, Sequim track and field

What a conclusion to the high school career of Sequim’s Riley Pyeatt.

Pyeatt, who didn’t get a chance to run at state in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, finished her career at Sequim High School with a flourish.

Pyeatt pulled off the amazing feat of winning two events and placing in four at multiple distances. She came in fourth in the 1,600 meters and third in the 400.

Then she won a state championship in her strongest event, the 800, with a personal-best time of 2 minutes, 14.23 seconds. She had earlier set a personal best in the prelims.

The cherry on top. Pyeatt was the anchor runner on the Sequim girls 4×400 team that also won a state championship. With her teammates Hi’lei Robinson, Kaitlyn Bloomenrader and Eve Mavy set a time of 4:03.91.

Pyeatt will be running at the Nike Outdoor Nationals on June 18 and then will run track and field for Abeline Christian next season.
