ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Quilcene’s Allison Jones

Allison Jones

Allison Jones

Quilcene’s Allison Jones was recently honored as the Most Valuable Player of the Sea-Tac 1B Volleyball League for her role in leading the Rangers to a Sea-Tac 1B championship and a 22-2 record.

Jones was a setter who ran the Rangers’ offense and set up her teammates, much like a point guard in basketball. She helped lead teh Rangers to a Quad-District championship and 20 straight wins.

Jones had 454 assists this year, averaging 18.9 assists per match. She had a staggering 2,049 assists for her high school career.

Jones also served 290 out of 302 this season (a 96 percent success rate) with 34 aces. She also had 48 kills and 127 digs.

Jones said her coach Joni Crowell kept the news secret from her and her teammates as long as she could. She was shocked when she was finally told she won the league MVP, because front line spikers usually win these awards. She thought one of her teammates would win it.

Jones, a senior who is also a point guard for the Rangers’ basketball team, has been accepted to Washington State and Central Washington. She hopes to keep playing intermural volleyball and basketball, and has not ruled out perhaps trying to walk on to a college squad.
