Port Angeles’ Nadia Cole’s swimming performance at the West Central District III championships helped her team win the district crown for the second consecutive season.
Cole placed first in two individual events, swam the breaststroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay, and also anchored the 400 freestyle relay team that placed second.
Most impressive, Cole’s winning time 200 individual medley, 2 minutes, 12.1 seconds, broke the previous Port Angeles High School record that had stood since 1988, the oldest swim record at the school.
At the State 2A Swim Championships Saturday, Cole placed in two events individually — seventh in the 200 IM and seventh in the breaststroke — and helped two Roughrider relay teams, the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay finish fourth and sixth in the state. In all, she placed in four events individually and as a member of relay teams.
Cole’s performance was a big part in the Riders finishing third at state, their second straight top-3 finish at the state swim meet.
