ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Lizzy Soto, Forks softball

Lizzy Soto is just one of the reasons the Forks softball team gained a Pacific 2B League co-championship.

Soto had a pair of monster doubleheaders as the Spartans ended their league play on a 5-0 run.

On May 9, Soto had a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to help beat South Bend 6-5. She was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. She also pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and one earned run.

In an 8-4 win over South Bend, Soto was also 3-for-4 with an RBI.

In a doubleheader against Ilwaco on May 2, she went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in an 11-1 win. She also pitched a complete-game one-hitter, allowing zero earned runs. In a 13-2 win over Ilwaco, she was 2-for-4 and three RBIs.

That’s 10-for-16 (a .625 batting average), four doubles, seven RBIs and two complete-game victories with one earned run over the Spartans’ four final league games in May.

Forks begins postseason play Wednesday in the District 4 2B tournament.
