ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Lexie Smith, Port Angeles softball

Lexie Smith is wrapping up an outstanding prep sports career this spring with the Port Angeles softball team and is putting up monster numbers so far in her senior season.

Smith had perhaps the best game of her career Wednesday in a victory over Sequim. She hit a pair of home runs, a two-run shot and a grand slam for six RBIs. She followed that up on Wednesday with another two RBIs in a second win over Sequim.

Smith is hitting .321 for the season with a total of six extra-base hits and 13 RBIs in just nine games. On top of all that, she has a 1.000 fielding percentage with zero errors in 50 chances this season at first base. She is a big part of the reason why the Roughriders are a tough team again with a 7-1-1 record. Not surprisingly, the Riders, who finished fourth in the state last year, are ranked high in Ratings Percentage Index at No. 7.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store of Port Angeles.
