ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Lauren Larson, Port Angeles Track and Field

Lauren Larson

Lauren Larson

Port Angeles distance runner Lauren Larson had a spectacular weekend at the West Central District III 2A Track and Field meet in Bremerton.

Larson ran personal bests in the 800 meters, the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters to win all three events. She was already Olympic League 2A champion in all three events, and she has now tallied a total of 20 first-place finishes this track season.

Not only did Larson run personal bests, but her 800-meter time (2 minutes, 16.22 seconds) is the fastest in the state among girls at the 2A level. Her 1,600-meter time (5:06.87) is the third-fastest in the state and her 3,200 time (11:12.52) is the fifth fastest. She already holds the Port Angeles High School sophomore records in all three events and has the second-fastest 1,600 and 3,200 times in Port Angeles High School history.

Larson could’ve taken a break after all that, but on Sunday, she ran in the Rhody Run in Port Townsend and finished fifth among the women in the 12K.

The sky is the limit for Larson at the state 2A track meet this coming weekend. And she is still just a sophomore, so she has plenty of time left to break more records.
