ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kody Williams, Port Angeles baseball

Port Angeles baseball player Kody Williams has had a spectacular May for the Roughriders.

First, on May 6, Williams threw a complete-game no-hitter against Kingston as the Riders began making their push for the postseason. On May 12, in Port Angeles’ district tournament opener, Williams again pitched a complete game, beating Eatonville 8-1.

Finally, on Saturday might have been Williams’ most impressive performance because it was so clutch. He was touched up for four hits and two runs in the first inning by Fife, but then slammed the door tight against the Trojans, pitching five shutout innings to allow the Riders to rally and win the game, qualifying for the 2A state tournament.

In his past three games, two of them in the postseason, Williams has pitched 20 innings, allowed three earned runs for an ERA of 1.05. He has also struck out 16 batters.

Williams and his Roughrider teammates begin play in the state 2A tournament Saturday in Selah versus Tumwater.
