The defending state 1B champion Neah Bay boys’ basketball team got off to a slow start this season as players had an exceptionally long football season due to Neah Bay’s run to the 1B football championship.
Kenrick Doherty Jr. helped the Red Devils get out of that early-season funk with a great tournament at the Crush in the Slush.
He has a green light to shoot the ball from as far out as he feels comfortable — and for good reason. Doherty scored 15 points and hit four 3-pointers against Nooksack Valley in a 67-48 win, then came back with another 13 points in a win versus Port Townsend as he helped lead the balanced Red Devils to two wins at the Crush, evening their record at 3-3.
Doherty also had a crucial TD catch in the Red Devils’ dramatic 28-22 state 1B football semifinal win over rival Lummi.
