ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kennedy Rognlien, Port Angeles softball

Kennedy Rognlien played a big role in helping the Port Angeles girls softball team win an Olympic League co-championship.

Rognlien’s biggest contribution came Thursday in a huge game against a very good 15-4 Olympic squad that is ranked in the top 10 in the state. The Roughriders were locked in a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning when Rognlien belted a two-run home run to break the tie. The Riders added another run for a 4-1 victory.

Earlier in the week, she also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in another tough 8-5 win over a Kingston team that gave the Roughriders all they could handle.

Finally, in her final regular season game Friday, Rognlien hit a double and had an RBI in a 15-0 win over Sequim to lock up the co-championship.

And if that wasn’t enough, Rognlien also had a clutch tiebreaking RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning to help beat North Kitsap on Monday 2-1.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store of Port Angeles.
