ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Keira Johnson, Forks basketball

Keira Johnson made history for the Forks girls basketball program last week.

Johnson scored 26 points in a victory over Lummi at the Mount Vernon Christian holiday tournament to break the all-time Forks girls scoring record. The record of 1,303 points was previously set by Madison Justice in 2008. She later became a head coach for Forks for a couple of years.

Johnson, a Pacific League first-teamer last year, is a big part of the reason that the Forks girls are the defending league co-champion and qualified for state in 2023. This year, the Spartans are 9-3, including 3-0 in the Pacific 2B League.

The Forks Spartans have only had one home game all year so their fans will get lots of home games in January. The Spartans return to league play Tuesday at Ocosta.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
