ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Karen Ensastegui, Forks wrestling

There were five regional wrestling champions crowned this weekend.

Forks’ Karen Ensastegui, who wrestles at 100 pounds, is the only girl wrestler on the Olympic Peninsula among them.

Ensastegui, also an Evergreen 1A subregional champion, won her quarterfinal, her semifinal and her championship match at Kelso regional all by pin, beating wrestlers from bigger schools at Washougal and Puyallup.

Ensastegui also won the Vikings Girls Invitational earlier this season and is a member of the Spartans girls cross-country team, qualifying for the state cross-country meet. Joining her at the Mat Classic this weekend will be her teammate Annhelica Wells.

Other regional champions heading to the Mat Classic include Jake Weakley, Colton Duncan and Hayden Queen from Forks and Dylan Tracer from Port Townsend.
