ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kaleb Needoba, Sequim boys’ swim team

Sequim swimmer Kaleb Needoba has accomplished something unique.

After the “last chance” divisionals meet this weekend, Needoba has qualified for district in every single individual event. He is also one of the anchors on Sequim’s relay teams. The Wolves likewise qualified three relay events — the 200 medley relay, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. Needoba swims on the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.

Perhaps two of Needoba’s best showings this year came against Klahowya on Jan. 23 and Bremerton on Dec. 17. In both meets, Needoba had two individual wins (the 200 individual medley and the butterfly versus Klahowya, the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle versus Bermerton) and four more wins on Sequim’s relay teams. That’s eight combined first-place finishes.

Needoba will be joined at district by Sequim’s Deven Biehler in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle and Jesse Bobst in the 100 breaststroke.

Joining Needoba and his teammates will be Zen Graham as a possible wild card in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle and Chris Tadlock in the relays.

The West Central District III meet will be held Feb. 14-15 at Hazen High School in Renton.
