ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kaitlyn Meek, Port Townsend basketball player

Kaitlyn Meek

Kaitlyn Meek

Kaitlyn Meek is the straw that stirs the drink for the Port Townsend basketball girls.

At this weekend’s Crush in the Slush tournament, Meek averaged 15.5 points in two games. Not only does she score, she handles much of the ball-handling for the Redhawks.

For the season, Meek is averaging 13.2 points a game, with a 19-point game against North Mason to start the season and a 20-point effort against Bremerton (when the entire team scored 36 in a victory).

Meek has helped lead the Redhawks through a very difficult preseason schedule and will continue to be a major focus of the Redhawks’ offense as they enter the heart of league play this week.

Athlete of the Week is brought to you by the sports department at the Peninsula Daily News along with the sponsorship of Swain’s General Store serving Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1957.
