ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jodell Wimberly, Neah Bay football

Neah Bay’s Jodell Wimberly picked the perfect game to have one of his best performances in his football career for the Red Devils.

The Red Devils had a lot to prove against a perennial powerhouse Naselle team that has had Neah Bay’s number for a while.

Not last weekend. Playing in hot, smoky conditions at a neutral field in Forks, Wimberly had 296 yards from scrimmage and scored four touchdowns on runs of 45, 45, 47 and 75 yards as Neah Bay romped over the Comets 58-20. He only touched the ball 11 times total, but that was all that was needed to dominate Naselle.

A young Neah Bay team that made it to the state playoffs with a roster full of eighth- and ninth-graders appears to have arrived and will end up ranked very high in the RPI rankings after the Naselle win. Wimberly is still just a sophomore and has a lot more big games ahead of him for the Red Devils.
