ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jarrett Burns, Port Angeles running back

Jarrett Burns

Jarrett Burns

Port Angeles’ Jarrett Burns had a game for the ages Friday night for the resurgent Roughriders, erupting for 211 yards rushing on 28 carries in the Riders’ 35-14 win over the Kingston Buccaneers.

Burns, a senior, also scored four touchdowns on runs of nine, six, six and five yards. He was quick to give credit to his offensive line and his lead blocker Jake Allen. The team as a whole had more than 270 yards rushing.

Burns has been a big part of the Riders bounceback season. After losing 17 straight, Port Angeles is 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the Olympic League 2A Division, all alone in third place in the league and gunning for a playoff spot.

Athlete of the Week is brought to you by the sports department at the Peninsula Daily News along with the sponsorship of Swain’s General Store serving Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1957.
