ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Hope O’Connor, Port Angeles softball

Hope O’Connor

Port Angeles Roughrider Hope O’Connor accomplished a rare feat of perfection this past week.

There’s been a handful of no-hitters this season, pitched by Sequim and Port Angeles baseball players. But, O’Connor has pitched the only perfect game on the Peninsula this season for the Riders’ softball team.

O’Connor didn’t allow a single baserunner in a five-=inning 13-0 win over Kingston on May 9. She struck out six without allowing a single hit or a single walk. Amazingly, she’s not even the primary pitcher for the Roughriders as she usually does most of her damage at the plate.

Her game against North Mason on May 7 is typical of how she’s part of a murderer’s row in the Riders’ lineup. Against the Bulldogs, she went 2 for 3, hit a home run, scored three runs and had two RBIs in an 11-1 victory.
