ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Hayden Baker, Forks football

Hayden Baker

Hayden Baker

Hayden Baker had an incredible game in Forks’ 46-20 win over the Port Townsend Redhawks on Friday night.

Baker ran the ball 40 times for 344 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Spartans to the nonleague victory.

And he contributed on both sides of the ball, getting an interception while playing linebacker on defense.

And believe it or not, that was in his first game for the Spartans as a running back. He had been nursing a foot injury and hadn’t carried the ball for Forks before Friday. Looks like the Spartans have found themselves a gem.

Coach Trevor Highland calls Baker not only a bruiser but “the smartest player on the team.”
