It’s difficult for almost every prep athlete to make the gigantic leap to college sports. It’s even more difficult for an athlete coming from a small 1B high school to play college sports.
But, Neah Bay’s Gina McCaulley is off to a very good start for the Peninsula College women. McCaulley, a 2018 Neah Bay graduate who helped lead the Red Devils to fifth place at the State 1B Tournament last year as a point guard, shot 2 for 4 on her 3-pointers in her first-ever college game against South Puget Sound, scoring six points to go along with two assists in just 18 minutes.
In her next game against Highline, McCaulley shot 1 for 1 on her treys, scoring five points and grabbing three rebounds in just 19 minutes.
So far on the season, McCaulley is shooting 50 percent on her 3-pointers and has helped the Pirate women get off to a 3-0 start on the season. Her coach Alison Crumb said McCaulley is tough and eager to learn.
“Gina is only going to get better for us, and we can’t wait to see what she does later on in the season,” Crumb said.
