ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Fynlie Peters, Forks softball

Seniors Keira Johnson and Lizzy Soto are the senior leaders of the Forks girls softball team, but last week, their freshman teammate Fynlie Peters really came in to her own.

Against Pe Ell-Willapa Valley last week, Peters had a monster doubleheader.

First, she caught both games as the Spartans swept both games.

In game one, a 4-2 victory, she went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

She saved her big game for the nightcap, an 8-5 win. She went 3-for-4, belting a double and a home run, driving in three runs in her biggest game of her high school career so far.

Her big doubleheader raised her season average from .267 to .409.

Like many of the Forks student-athletes, Peters plays sports year-round. She is also a member of the Forks volleyball and basketball squads.

Peters and her Forks teammates are off this week for spring break and return to the field at home on April 9 against Winlock.
