Enid Ensastegui, Forks cross-country runner

Forks’ Enid Ensastegui had a pretty successful cross-country season in 2016. She won a race and finished second twice.

Her 2017 season, however, has been off the charts as she has improved dramatically. She has won six races this year (the Ocosta Invite, Forks’ home meet, the Mark Lyle Memorial Invite, Harriers at the Beach, the Toutle Lake Invite and the Tenino meet) and was the top 1A runner at the Salt Creek Invitational, finishing sixth out of 76 mostly 2A and 3A girls. She has helped the Forks girls dominate their races as a team at the 1A level this year and the Spartans girls could make a lot of noise at the Evergreen 1A and District meets.

Ensastegui has also shaved a full minute off her top time from last year, good for the eighth-best time in District 4 at the 1A level. She finished 84th at the state 1A meet last year and is looking to move much higher than that this year.

Athlete of the Week is brought to you by the sports department at the Peninsula Daily News along with the sponsorship of Swain’s General Store serving Clallam and Jefferson counties since 1957.
