Port Angeles wrestler Daniel Basden is off to a fantastic start for the Roughriders.

Basden, wrestling at 126 pounds, is 9-1 on the season, with his only loss of the season at a tournament in Fife on Saturday against a 4A wrestler.

Basden took first at his weight class at the Patriot Dome Classic, beating a two-time 1A state champion.

Basden has been a big part of the Riders getting off to a 2-0 start in league, beating their two top rivals — North Mason and North Kitsap — right off the bat to take control of the league.

Basden made it to the state 2A Mat Classic last year, but he’s already shown that he’s greatly improved over last year, so watch for Basden to do a lot of damage this year in postseason.
