ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Chloe Gaydeski, Forks softball

Forks softball pitcher Chloe Gaydeski was a huge part of the Spartans’ amazing run to the 2B state championship game.

Just a freshman, Gaydeski pitched complete games in all three of Forks’ state tournament victories. She was the winner in a 12-1 win over Okanogan in the semifinal on May 27, a 10-5 victory over Warden in the quarterfinals and a 13-5 win over Brewster in the tournament opening round. She pitched 19 innings in those three games, allowing six earned runs.

She also was a force at the plate. She was 3-for-3 with a double versus Okanogan, 2-for-4 with a double and a home run and four RBIs, and she had a double and an RBI in the win over Brewster.

Though Forks lost in the championship game to powerful Adna, Gaydeski contributed a two-run home run and pitched a complete game.

Gaydeski is sure to be a big part of the Spartans team next year that will try to return to the state tournament.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles. Athlete of the Week will return in September.
