Wilder alumni Landon Seibel leads hitting clinic
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles High School and Wilder Baseball Club alumni Landon Seibel will offer a two-day hitting clinic for boys ages 13-15 on Dec. 15-16.
The clinic will be held at the Peninsula Baseball and Softball Barn, 260 Easy St., from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. each day.
Seibel, a current player at Skagit Valley College, will provide instruction on hitting fundamentals, proper form and technique.
Olympic Junior Babe Ruth’s Carey Pavlak will assist Seibel at the clinic.
The cost is $100 and registration is available at pbsbarn.square.site.
Players should bring water, athletic shoes (no cleats allowed) and batting gloves. A helmet and bat are optional.
Rivals earn honors
PORT TOWNSEND — Four East Jefferson football players earned All-Nisqually League honors in voting conducted by league coaches.
Senior Cash Holmes earned a first-team selection as an all-purpose player and an honorable mention for his play at defensive back.
Senior Gary Zambor also was a dual-honoree, earning second-team honors at return specialist and honorable mention at defensive back.
Rivals sophomore Noah Cervantes earned a second-team selection on the defensive line while classmate Tyler Martin was an honorable mention pick on the defensive line.
Avalanche class slated
PORT ANGELES — An avalanche awareness class will be presented by Northwest Avalanche Center instructor Jessica Trimble at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The free course will provide a basic approach to managing risk.
Trimble will explain how to access avalanche and mountain weather forecasts and recognize basic signs of avalanche danger.
The event is sponsored by the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Foundation.
Cougs, Beavs schedule
Oregon State, Washington State and the Mountain West announced a football scheduling agreement Friday for the 2024 season that gives the two remaining Pac-12 schools six opponents each and positions them to operate as a two-team conference for at least a year.
All 12 Mountain West schools will be involved and Oregon State and Washington State will each play three home games and three road games against members of a conference that includes: Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State, Wyoming, Nevada, UNLV, San Jose State, Utah State, Fresno State and New Mexico.
Oregon State and Washington State will pay about $14 million to the Mountain West next year as part of the agreement, Washington State athletic director Pat Chun confirmed.
For its part, the Mountain West will play a seven-game conference schedule and the games against Oregon State and Washington State will not count in the league standings.
Washington State athletic director Pat Chun said the Cougars have 11 of their 12 games filled now on their schedule.
Hawks’ game moved
NEW YORK — The Eagles-Seahawks game in Week 15 has become the first NFL game flexed to Monday night.
The league moved the Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots to 1 p.m. on Sunday to put Philadelphia at Seattle on prime-time television on Dec. 18.
The NFL also announced a tripleheader on Saturday, Dec. 16.
The Minnesota Vikings visit the Cincinnati Bengals in the early game. The Pittsburgh Steelers play at the Indianapolis Colts in the afternoon. The Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions face off in prime time.
