PORT ANGELES — Registration is underway for August’s Ride the Hurricane, the bicycle-only ride that sees riders climb from sea to sky.

The Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce event is set for Aug. 7, beginning at City Pier in Port Angeles and wrapping at the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center.

The 40.3-mile round-trip distance includes 5,624 feet of vertical gain.

Aid and water stations are scattered throughout the course with refreshments and snacks.

The fee is $60 per rider and includes an after-race event catered by Little Devils Lunchbox and Barhop Brewery.

Photos from the event also will be available for purchase.

Registration is capped at 800 riders. The 2021 ride had a 200-plus person wait list and demand is expected to be high again as Canadian riders also will be able to participate this year.

YMCA of Port Angeles T-Ball

PORT ANGELES — Registration is open through July 13 for the YMCA of Port Angeles T-Ball program for ages 4 through 7.

The six-week introductory league runs from July 18 to Aug. 24 with a focus on skill development, fun and confidence building.

Teams will practice twice a week for the first two weeks of the season on Mondays and Wednesdays, followed by once-a-week practices on Mondays and games on Wednesdays.

Practices and games will be held at Erickson Playfield, 321 S. Francis St. from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The cost is $45 for the public, $35 for YMCA members.

Port Angeles Pumptrack

PORT ANGELES — Work is nearing completion on the Port Angeles Pumptrack at Erickson Park with sod-laying shifts available Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon and noon to 4 p.m.

Rolls of sod can weigh between 50 and 60 pounds.

Host families June 29-July 5

PORT ANGELES — Wilder Baseball Club is looking for families willing to host out-of-town baseball players visiting to play in Wilder’s annual Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker Tournament from June 29 to July 5.

Players are from Australia, Indonesia, South Korea, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines and Alaska, Oregon and Washington. All are English speakers.

The players all have their own spending money and will only need an occasional ride back and forth to Civic Field.

Pickleball play July 2 in Forks

FORKS — Pickleball play will be a part of Forks’ Old Fashioned Fourth of July weekend, with games at the two pickleball courts at Tilicum Park on July 2.

The second annual “Paddle Battle in Forks” will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
