Forks girls hoops signups

FORKS — The West End Youth League will hold girls basketball registration sessions for players in grades three through six Tuesday and Thursday.

The signup events are set at the WEYL Baseball Field shed from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. each night.

The cost is $35 per player, with checks payable to West End Youth League.

A mini basketball camp will begin Oct. 18. Team drafts are Oct. 21.

Practices will begin the week of Oct. 24 and games will start the week of Nov. 7.

CrabFest run/walk benefit

PORT ANGELES — Area basketball fans can help the Peninsula College women’s basketball team get back to the Northwest Athletic Conference championship by participating in the annual CrabFest 5K, set for 11 a.m. Saturday at City Pier.

The event, a fundraiser for Peninsula College women’s basketball, is open to runners and walkers of all ages. The entry fee is $35 and participants will go home with a CrabFest mug.

Registration is available at athletics.pencol.edu or on race day starting at 9:30 a.m. The run starts at 11 a.m. on the waterfront trail at the City Pier.

“This is one of the primary fundraisers for coach Ali Crumb and her women’s basketball team,” said Rick Ross, PC’s associate dean for athletics and student life. “This run/walk offers a great low-key way for area fans to support that program.”

The PC men’s basketball team also raises funds at the annual CrabFest celebration by helping with other parts of the festival.

Dahlgren tabbed by EWU

CHENEY — Forks’ Luke Dahlgren was named Eastern Washington’s Player of the Game in the Eagles’ 38-35 Big Sky Conference-opening defeat against Montana State on Sept. 24.

Dahlgren, a redshirt junior, has started every game at center for Eastern Washington this season, including in contests at Oregon’s Autzen Stadium and The Swamp, Florida’s Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

The Eagles (0-1, 1-3) visit Weber State on Saturday.
