AREA SPORTS: Summer volleyball, basketball and golf camps available for youth

Registration underway

PORT ANGELES — Registration is open to all athletes in second through ninth grades for the Port Angeles Youth Volleyball Camp set for the Port Angeles High School Gym on June 26-28.

Second- through fifth-graders will attend from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and six through ninth grades from noon to 3 p.m.

Current high school coaches, former Roughrider players and current Port Angeles varsity and junior varsity athletes will provide skills-based instruction at every skill level.

Campers will get to participate in team activities and competitions each day and learn about teamwork, communication, problem solving and cooperation.

The cost is $75 and includes a camp T-shirt on a first-come, first-served basis.

Players should bring their own water bottle, dress in athletic gear and have their hair out of their faces.

Knee pads are encouraged but not required.

Summer hoops

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Basketball will host summer youth basketball camps for boys and girls in grades 3-5 and 6-8 from July 17-20 at Port Angeles High School.

Incoming students in grades 3-5 will attend from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Students entering sixth through eighth grades will attend from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The cost is $75 per camper with checks made payable to Port Angeles Boys Basketball.

Local 155 on to playoffs

PORT ANGELES — Local 155 rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the sixth inning for a 5-3 win against Athletes’ Choice in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth baseball action at Volunteer Park.

The win sealed the regular season title and the Don Mudd Trophy for Local (10-1).

Bryce DeLeon doubled home Ian Smithson, who reached on a single and stole second, to tie the game at 3-all.

Brandt Perry drew a walk and swiped second and Chris Jaynes followed up with the game-winner, a two-run single on a 1-1 count.

Perry started on the mound for Local and battled through three strong innings, according to coach Mike Mudd. He gave up three runs on three hits with three strikeouts.

DeLeon shut down Athletes’ Choice with four strikeouts in four innings to earn the win.

Smithson had three hits and scored twice, while Jayne totaled three hits and four RBIs to lead Local.

Ethan Barbre flashed the glove defensively at second base, leading Local 155 with five putouts.

Junior golf at Cedars

SEQUIM — Registration is open through June 14 for The Cedars at Dungeness Junior Golf Academy for ages 8-14.

The four-week program meets from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays from June 20 to July 14.

Instruction, green and range fees, plus a team jersey, hat and golf balls are included in the $350 price.
