Sequim’s Boekhoff sinks first-ever ace
SEQUIM — Sequim’s Jim Boekhoff recorded his first hole-in-one while playing at The Cedars at Dungeness on June 29.
Boekhoff aced the 131-yard par-3 17th hole using a Noodle ball and his 7-iron. The shot was witnessed by Paul Langdon and Bill Schless.
Cedars’ women
SEQUIM — Marine Hirschfeld was recently crowned winner of the Cedars at Dungeness Women’s Golf Association’s month-long President’s Cup competition.
Runner-up and chair of the event Yoon Park also received praise from fellow members for her work in getting a full field to participate — with no competition byes — this year.
Mimi Shin was the Flight 1 net winner with a round of 69 in monthly medal play held Tuesday.
Linda Hash posted a 75 and Lisa Chon added a 76.
Hash led the way with the low putt total of 32, while Shin, Hirschfeld and Bobbie Piety all tied with 33.
Witta Priester earned the closest-to-the-pin prize on No. 8, coming within 20 feet, 9 inches of the cup. Lori Oakes was first in Flight 2, with a shot 7-5 from the pin.
Hirschfeld was closest on No. 17 in Flight 1 at 31-10, while Reno was 12-8 away in Flight 2.
Lisa Ballantyne led the way in Flight 2 with a round of 72 to edge Anne Elwell (73) by one stroke with Judy Reno (77) third.
Priester was the low putt maker with 32, while Elwell, Reno and Bev Handshumaker tied at 34.
Trish Olson was the Flight 3 low score with 62, while Lori Wyngaert was next with 82. Olson had 28 putts to Wyngaert’s 34.
Olson recorded two birdies, including opening strong on No. 1 and chipping in on No. 4.
Other birdies were holed by Barb Burrows and Shin (No. 8), Hash on No. 11 and Park on No. 13.
Kathy Langston (No. 9), Chon (No. 14) and Shin (No. 5) also chipped in from off the green.
Gridiron/cheer camp
PORT TOWNSEND — A football and cheer camp for East Jefferson Rivals youth ages 5-12 is set for July 30 through Aug. 1 at Memorial Field.
The camp will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. each night.
Registration is in person and will be held from 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on July 30.
A registration fee of $60 is required and a $10 discount will be applied to season registration fees if athletes participate in camp.
The league also will hold in-person regular season registration and gear distribution on Aug. 8 and 10 at H.J. Carroll Park in Chimacum.
The Aug. 8 registration runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. while the Aug. 10 event goes from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
An all-league meeting followed by the first practice will be held at Chimacum High School at 5 p.m. Aug. 12.
All players and parents must be present.
