Sequim Yacht club rowers compete
POULSBO — Six Sequim Bay Yacht Club rowers took home honors in the Kitsap Invitational Masters Summer Scrimmage hosted by the Poulsbo-based Kitsap Rowing Assocation.
The club’s Deana Volker joined seven sweep rowers from other regional clubs in Orange Crush to take first place in the short-course, a distance of 2.6 kilometers.
Suzy Narbutovskih rowed sweep in the Bill Richards, the eight that finished second in the 4.8-kilometer race with rowers from other clubs. It was 23 seconds behind the winning Thom.
In the quad competition, the Sequim Bay Yacht Club team of Carolyn DeSalvo, Frank DeSalvo, Amy Holms and Dennis Miller finished second behind a team from Rat Island Rowing and Sculling Club of Port Townsend.
Other competing clubs included Bainbridge Island Rowing, Clam Island Rowing (Silverdale), Vashon Island Rowing Club, Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association and the hosts.
The Sequim Bay Yacht Club will host a rowing and paddling race as part of the club’s annual Reach and Row fundraiser for Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County.

Illusion softball tryouts
PORT ANGELES — Tryouts for the 2019/2020 12U and 14U/16U Port Angeles Illusion select softball teams will be held Sunday at the Lower Elwha Field at Billy Whiteshoes Memorial Park, 3071 Lower Elwha Road.
The 12U tryout will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The 14U/16U tryout will run from noon to 2 p.m.
“We are looking for committed competitive athletes in the 12U and 14U/16U age divisions that are willing to work hard and have fun,” coach Warren Stevens said.
“We do understand that most participants also play other sports. We will make accommodations for other sports. We pride ourselves through hard work, detail oriented instruction, and success.”

Officials meet tonight
PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Football Officials Association will meet at the Vern Burton Center, 308 W. Fourth St., at 7 tonight.
All returning high school football referees should plan to attend this meeting.
The new rules for high school football this fall will be reviewed.
Anyone wishing to begin refereeing prep football should attend the meeting.

Pickleball tourney
SEQUIM — The start time has changed for Sequim Picklers round robin tournament pickleball tournament Thursday, Aug. 8.
The tournament is intended for novice pickleball players.
Tournament play will now begin at noon at the Carrie Blake Park community pickleball courts.
Sign-up sheets will be at the courts during Sequim Pickler play. Sign-ups will close Sunday, and are limited to the first 32 players to register.
No partner is needed as partners will be pre-drawn for each game. Awards will be given for first-, second-, third- and fourth-place winners based on overall individual round-robin score.
Games will be first to 11 and referees will be provided as much as possible. There is no fee to sign up.
