PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles won 11 of 12 events, sweeping the top three podium spots in three events in a dominant 136-39 Olympic League girls swimming victory over Olympic on Wednesday.

The Roughriders’ medley relay team of Danika Asgeirsson, Brooke St. Luise, Yau Fu and Harper McGuire opened the meet by seizing the top position and setting the tone for the rest of the meet.

Port Angeles continued its winning streak in the 200-yard freestyle with a sweep. Lizzy Shaw clinched first place, followed by St. Luise in second and Asgeirsson in third as all three swimmers turned in season-best times.

McGuire showed her versatility in the pool, grabbing first in the 200 individual medley, adding to the Riders’ lead.

Port Angeles maintained its momentum with another event sweep, this time in the 50 free. Lynzee Reid, Amayah Nelson and Flora Sullivan captured the top three spots.

Coach Sally Cole said Fu’s diving skills were unmatched as she claimed the top spot.

McGuire also shined in the 100 butterfly.

The Roughriders once again demonstrated their strength in the 100 free, with Shaw in first, Sullivan second and Faye Dachs third. Sullivan and Dachs each recorded personal-best times.

Fu picked up another win in the 500 free by a commanding margin.

“The 200 free relay squad of Shaw, Asgeirsson, McGuire and Fu displayed their team synchronicity, capturing the top position and narrowly missing the state-qualifying time by just a second,” Cole said.

In the 100 backstroke, it was Olivia Mesen nabbing first, swimming a season-best time and just barely missing a district-qualifying time.

The meet wrapped with the Riders’ 400 free relay team of Shaw, Reid, St. Luise and Nelson securing first place.

The Riders (6-1) visit North Kitsap today.

Murray back for Cards

TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray announced the next step in his return from an ACL injury with a two-word statement.

“Practicing today,” Murray posted on social media.

Arizona can activate Murray to the 53-man roster at any time during the next 21 days.

Arizona safety Budda Baker also was designated to return from injured reserve.
