AREA SPORTS: Port Townsend’s Aliyah Yearian named WIAA Athlete of the Week

PORT TOWNSEND — East Jefferson runner Aliyah Yearian earned a WIAA Athlete of the Week Award for her performance at the Class 1A West Central District 3 Championships.

The Port Townsend High School junior won the 800-meter, 1,600 and 3,200 races, all in meet-record times.

She also anchored the Rivals’ second-place 4×400 relay team with the fastest split of the meet.

Yearian currently holds the fastest time in 1A for the 1,600 and has the second-best 800 and 3,200.

She will compete at the 1A state track and field championships through Saturday at Eisenhower High School in Yakima.

Yearian will receive a letter of recognition from the WIAA, a certificate of achievement and a $25 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card.

Wilder tryouts set

PORT ANGELES — Wilder Baseball Club has planned tryouts for its summer American Legion traveling teams for players ages 14-19 who have played for a high school team in Clallam, Jefferson or Kitsap counties.

Wilder Baseball Club has three teams: Wilder Senior for ages 16-19, coached by Zac Moore; Wilder Junior for ages 15-17, coached by Greg Dickman and Wilder A for ages 14-15 and coached by Jadon Seibel.

Tryouts will be held at Civic Field.

Ages 16-19 will try out from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday through Tuesday.

Those ages 14-15 will try out from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday through Monday.

Those playing Olympic Junior Babe Ruth will try out with the 14-15 group.

West End soccer signups

FORKS — Registration dates have been set for West End Youth League Soccer for ages 4 (as of June 1) through 6, 7-9 and 10-14.

Registration will be held at the Duncan Field’s sheds and will run from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and again from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. June 6 and June 8.

The cost is $40 per child and includes a T-shirt.

13U Babe Ruth tryouts

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Junior Babe Ruth will hold a tryout session June 4 for a summer travel ball baseball team for players 13 and younger.

The tryout will be held at Volunteer Field from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Those interested must be registered as a 13-year-old for the 2023 Olympic Junior Babe Ruth regular season.

Wolf Pack registration

SEQUIM — Sequim Wolf Pack Youth Football & Cheer will hold back-to-back registration and uniform sizing events June 4.

Both will be held in the Olympic Peninsula Academy gym, 200 N. Second Ave., with cheerleading at 2 p.m. and football for kindergarten through sixth grade following at 4 p.m.

Children entering kindergarten through eighth grade are eligible to cheer. They should wear athletic clothing for accurate sizing.
