FORT WORTH, Texas — Port Angeles High School alumnus Kamron Meadows was selected Central Southwest Conference Pitcher of the Week after opening his senior baseball season at Arlington Baptist University in fine form.
Meadows tossed five scoreless innings, scattering four hits and a walk with four strikeouts and earned the win in the Patriots’ 10-7 victory over Southeastern Baptist in the National Christian College Athletic Association Division’s inaugural DII Baseball Invitational.
Arlington Baptist went on to win the tournament, capping a 4-0 weekend with a 14-4 triumph over Trinity Baptist in the championship contest.
Meadows also has worked with Wilder Baseball Club the last two summers, earning an American Legion state championship with the A squad in 2022.
A 2021 Roughrider graduate, Meadows also is getting the job done in the classroom. He was honored as a 2024 NCCAA scholar-athlete after earning at least a 3.4 grade-point average.
Umpire training set
PORT ORCHARD — An umpire training session for youth baseball/softball will be hosted by Washington District 2 Little League on Saturday.
Washington District 2 Little League serves youth in Kitsap, Pierce, Mason, Jefferson and Clallam counties.
The training will be held at The Family Worship Center, 4647 Sidney Road, Port Orchard.
Doors open at 8 a.m. with coffee provided, and the training will go until about 5 p.m.
Umpires should bring their mask, balls and strikes indicator and notetaking materials.
Free coaches’ clinic
PORT ANGELES — A free baseball coaches clinic led by Derek Jennings of New Level 360 will be hosted by the North Olympic Baseball and Softball Barn, 260 Easy St., at noon Saturday.
Jennings coached the South Hill Puyallup squad to the Little League World Series in 2024.
He will offer techniques and strategies to get the most out of youth players.
The training is open to all youth baseball coaches on the North Olympic Peninsula.
Youth flag football
PORT ANGELES — Youth Athletes For Christ will host a six-week six-on-six flag football league for players in grades one through 11 this spring.
Coaches include Port Angeles’ Jason Hawes, Terry Wopperer, Ryan DeTorres, Joseph Ritchie Brayden Wopperer, Tanner Flores.
The league will run Saturdays from April 5 through May 10 with all games on the turf at the Monroe Playfield, 102 Monroe Road.
Practices will be held 45 minutes prior to games.
Grades 1-3 will practice at 9:15 a.m. and play at 10 a.m.; 4-7 will practice at 11:15 a.m. and play at noon and grades 8-11 will practice at 1:15 p.m. and play at 2 p.m.
The cost is $150 before March 8, $175 after that date.

Coed youth soccer
PORT TOWNSEND — Registration is open through March 21 for Jefferson County Parks and Recreation’s spring coed youth soccer season for children in pre-Kindergarten through seventh grade.
Teams will be divided by age group.
Fees are $65 and include a T-shirt.
Practices will start April 7 and the league will wrap in mid-June.
Games and practices will be held Mondays and Wednesdays with pre-K through second-grade games at 4:30 p.m. and older players playing at 5:30 p.m. at HJ Carroll Park in Chimacum or Memorial Field in Port Townsend.
Coaches will serve as referees.
A coach meeting for all levels will be held at the Port Townsend Rec Center, 620 Tyler St., at 5:30 p.m. April 2.
