Golf tournament Feb. 24 to benefit Dream Playground
SEQUIM — The Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course will host one of the first steps in rebuilding the Dream Playground, a benefit golf tournament for all skill levels set Feb. 24.
All proceeds from the event will go toward rebuilding Port Angeles’ Dream Playground, destroyed in an apparent act of arson on Dec. 20.
The four-person scramble format event will include handicap and Callaway divisions — no handicap is necessary however, as this is intended as a fun event for all.
Registration is $80 per person and includes green fees, range balls, a boxed lunch, drink tickets and prizes.
Sponsorships of tees, greens, beverage carts, golf carts and all on-course advertising are available for prices ranging from $500 to $1,000.

Sequim Little League
SEQUIM — Registration for Sequim Little League’s 2024 season has been extended through Jan. 15.

Those signing up after that date will be put on a waiting list, league officials said.
League officials are also seeking coaches and volunteers for all divisions, as well as for its board of directors.
Mandatory skills assessments are set for Feb. 3 (ages 10-12, softball and baseball) and Feb. 10 (softball and baseball).
Practices start on March 11, with Opening Day scheduled for noon on April 13 at Dr. James Standard Park, 124 W. Silberhorn Road.

Snowboard screening
PORT ANGELES — A special screening of the new Teton Gravity Research snowboarding film Flying High Again will be held at Field Arts & Events Hall, 201 W. Front St., on Jan. 18.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with drinks and light fare menu available ahead of the 7 p.m. start of the film.
Legendary snowboard film director Mike Hatchett has produced an athlete-centered film featuring a mix of freestyle and big-mountain riding.
Filming locations include Idaho, the backcountry outside Lake Tahoe, Utah and Wyoming.
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door and $10 for ages 18 and younger and college students with student ID.

Haniger back with M’s
SAN FRANCISCO — Outfielder Mitch Haniger is returning to the Seattle Mariners after being acquired from the San Francisco Giants on Friday along with right-hander Anthony DeSclafani and $6 million in exchange for left-hander Robbie Ray in a trade of underperforming players coming off injuries.
Later Friday, the Mariners sent base-stealing infielder José Caballero to the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Luke Raley.
Haniger spent 2017-22 with Seattle, making the 2018 AL All-Star team, then left to sign a $43.5 million, three-year contract with the Giants.
He hit a career-low .209 with six homers and 28 RBIs last year, a season cut short when he broke his right forearm on June 13.
