Area picklers fare well at Founders
BAINBRIDGE — North Olympic Peninsula pickleball players brought home medals from the annual Founder’s Tournament held on Bainbridge Island — the birthplace of the sport.
Sequim’s Damon Little and Joel Meier teamed to win gold in the 4.5 All Ages category.
Sequim’s Garrett Little and Kitsap County resident William Herbert finished second to claim silver in the 5.0 All Ages category
Mary Critchlow of Port Townsend and Port Angeles’ Colleen Alger earned silver in the 50-plus age group 4.0.
Sequim’s Pam Woodruff and Sharman Owings teamed for bronze in the 3.5 Senior Women’s Doubles.
BMX clinic set
PORT ANGELES — Registration is underway for a two-day BMX clinic with 2016 U.S. Olympian Jeff Upshaw, coach of Driven Cycling Academy.
The clinic will be held at Lincoln Park BMX, 1798 W. Lauridsen Blvd., from 2 p.m. to
5 p.m. Sept. 10 and noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 11.
Upshaw will cover gates, cornering, pumping, jumping, manualing and race craft.
Registration is $55 each day or $100 for both days, and the clinic is limited to 40 riders.

Mitch Black tourney
PORT LUDLOW — Registration is underway for the third annual Mitch Black Memorial Golf Tournament at Port Ludlow Golf Club on Sept. 18.
The tournament is held to honor the memory of Mitch Black, a Chimacum High School teacher and Cowboys head golf coach for more than 35 years, who died in 2020. Friends, family and former students have turned out in force in recent years to reminisce about Black’s kindness, intelligence and great love of the game of golf.
Profits from the tournament have funded three $2,000 scholarships for Chimacum graduates as well as providing funds for educator grants.
The cost is $500 per four-player team and includes a round of golf, lunch provided by The Dusty Green Cafe and on-course competitions and prizes.
The event is sponsored by The Friends of Chimacum Schools Education Foundation and Port Ludlow Golf Club.

Storm win playoff game
SEATTLE — Breanna Stewart had 23 points and 12 rebounds, Jewell Loyd scored 12 of her 16 points in the final five minutes and the fourth-seeded Seattle Storm beat the fifth-seeded Washington Mystics 86-83 on Thursday night.
Loyd’s runner in the lane gave Seattle an 82-81 lead. Washington turned it over and Loyd was fouled with 24.2 seconds left before making two free throws.
