Plus Super Sunday scramble at Peninsula Golf Club, President’s Day tourney openings

SHORELINE — Jaylin Reed posted 22 points as the Peninsula College men’s basketball team put together a second-half rally to beat the Shoreline Dolphins 72-62 in NWAC North Division play Wednesday.

Reed scored 15 of his points after halftime as the Pirates trailed 37-34 at the break.

Malik Moore also was a huge part of the Peninsula comeback, posting 10 of his game-high 13 points and 10 of his 16 points after intermission.

The Pirates were sensational at the free-throw line, hitting on 20 of 21 attempts (95 percent) as a team.

Reed hit 14 of 15 of those freebies.

Peninsula (4-2, 14-4) visits first-place Skagit Valley (6-0, 21-0) on Saturday night.

The Cardinals are No. 1 in the latest NWAC coaches poll.

PC women triumph

SHORELINE — Leilani Padilla knocked in 5 of 8 3-point attempts and led all scorers with 23 points as the Peninsula College women’s basketball team blew out Shoreline 73-40 on the road Wednesday.

Padilla was the lone Pirate in double figures in scoring. but Logan Luke and Casandra White each hit for nine and Sunshine Vicente added eight.

Peninsula (4-2, 12-6) hosts Bellevue (5-1, 12-4) on Wednesday.

Super scramble

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula Golf Club will host a two-person SuperBowl Scramble on Sunday before the big game.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. with a 9 a.m. start.

Entry fees are $55 for the public, $40 for members and employees.

The cost includes green fees, KPs, gross and net division merchandise awards, a square on the Super Bowl board and two drink tickets.

The event is open to all, including amateurs with a valid USGA handicap, non-handicap players and pros.

An optional $20 team honeypot also is available.

Tourney openings

PORT ANGELES — There are still some openings in the Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department’s Presidents’ Day youth basketball tournament.

There is a $250 entry fee with a four-game guarantee for players in grades four through eight.
