AREA SPORTS: Mud drag racing action in Port Townsend on Saturday, Sunday

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jeff Co 4×4 Club will offer a full weekend of mud racing action at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 4907 Landes St., on Saturday and Sunday.

Gates open at 8 a.m. each day, with racing set to start at 11 a.m.

Saturday features mud drags for classes 4, 6, 8 and SXS. Open and kids quads classes also will run.

A Halloween Monster Mash complete with a Trunk or Treat event for kids will follow Saturday’s mud drags.

Sunday’s racing features tough trucks in classes 4, 6, 8, SXS and Open.

Admission is $5 for the public. Camping is $20 per night.

Club volleyball tryouts

PORT ANGELES — Momentum One Volleyball Academy will hold tryouts this weekend and in November for a number of club team offerings for teens.

All tryouts will be held at Stevens Middle School.

Players in the 10U-12U age bracket will try out from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, with 13U and 14U following from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Players in the 13U and 14U age groups will be invited back for a second session from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Tryouts for 17U and 18U follow from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 19, with 15U and 16U players from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Boys 16U-18U will have one tryout, noon to 3 p.m. on Nov. 5.

Players are asked to be on time with proper shoes, shorts/spandex and T-shirt, plus knee pads and water bottle.

Registration requires a $20 USA Volleyball membership.

Winterfest tickets

PORT ANGELES — Tickets and tables are available for Winterfest 2023, a fundraiser for the Hurricane Ridge Winter Sports Education Foundation on Nov. 18.

The event will be held at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St. in Port Angeles, with doors opening at 5 p.m. and the event starting at 6 p.m.

Appetizers prepared by Country Aire will be served, while dinner will be catered by Kokopelli Grill, along with an oyster bar and mini bundt cakes from Pies, Cakes and More.

A no-host beer and wine bar will be available along with Fogtown tea and coffee.

Live music will be provided by BBR, and there will be live and silent auctions and a $1,000 cash raffle from First Federal.

Tickets are $75 in advance, $90 at the door.

Community tables for eight are $600, while 10-person tables are available for $750.

Junior hoops in JeffCo

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County Parks and Recreation’s Junior Hoops Basketball registration is underway until Wednesday.

Open to all county boys and girls, the program includes levels for Pre-K/Kinder ($60 with custom T-shirt); first and second grade ($65 with shirt); third/fourth and fifth/sixth grades ($90 and includes a numbered, reversible jersey, $65 if you already have a jersey).

Volunteer coaches are needed.
