SEQUIM — More than 400 runners participated in the first-ever Run the Peninsula/Railroad Bridge 5K and 10K on Saturday, with Port Angeles and Sequim competitors winning three out of the four races.
Evan Prussack of Port Angeles won the men’s 10K with a time of 40 minutes, 0 seconds. Sequim’s Colby Ellefson won the 5K with a time of 19:46.
In the women’s races, Marisa Zah of Bremerton won the women’s 10K race with a time of 42:20, while Peggy Zeeb of Port Angeles won the 5K with a time of 22:42.
A total of 419 participants took part in this inaugural event held at Railroad Bridge Park just west of Sequim, according to race director Victoria Jones.
The Railroad Bridge Run, sponsored by the Peninsula Daily News and the Sequim Gazette, is part of a five-race series put together by the Port Angeles Marathon Association, which also manages the North Olympic Discovery Marathon. The Olympic Medical Center also presented the Railroad Bridge run.
The series began with the Elwha Bridge race in February and the Railroad Bridge was the second event of the series. Next up is the North Olympic Discovery Marathon to be held on June 2.
The series will conclude with the Larry Scott Trail Race in Port Townsend on Oct. 19 and then the Jamestown S’Klallam Race on Dec. 7 in Blyn.
There is still a virtual race people can also participate in, running the distances of the series on their own time and route — and even indoors if people prefer.
