Save the date for Mitch Black Memorial tourney
PORT LUDLOW — Registration is underway for the third annual Mitch Black Memorial Golf Tournament at Port Ludlow Golf Club on Sept. 18.
The tournament is held to honor the memory of Mitch Black, a Chimacum High School teacher and Cowboys head golf coach for more than 35 years, who died in 2020. Friends, family and former students have turned out in force in recent years to reminisce about Black’s kindness, intelligence and great love of the game of golf.
Profits from the tournament have funded three $2,000 scholarships for Chimacum graduates as well as providing funds for educator grants.
The cost is $500 per four-player team and includes a round of golf, lunch provided by The Dusty Green Cafe and on-course competitions and prizes.
The event is sponsored by The Friends of Chimacum Schools Education Foundation and Port Ludlow Golf Club.

Club softball tryouts
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Illusion 18U softball is scheduling private tryouts for the 2022-23 season.
“We have a strong returning core group of athletes and are looking for a second experienced pitcher/utility player and two additional utility players to round out our roster,” coach Warren Stevens said.

Pool pass available
PORT ANGELES — Shore Aquatic Center has teamed up again with the North Olympic Library System to make a family general admission pool pass available for checkout.
The pass allows up to six household members access to lap swimming, aerobics classes and all the features of the Shore Aquatic Center. Passes may be borrowed for up to one week.
The pool pass does not include swim lessons or special events.

Tour de Lavender
SEQUIM — Online registration is filling fast for Saturday’s Tour de Lavende cycling event.
The Peninsula Trails Coalition fundraiser features two distance options through the Sequim-Dungeness Valley for cyclists.
A 35-mile fun ride is $70 for ages 13 and older and $15 for 12 and younger.
A 62-mile metric century ride is $70 for 13 and older, $15 for 12 and younger.
The event begins at 8 a.m. at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St.

Veteran’s Cup Aug. 13
SEQUIM — The second annual Veteran’s Cup will be hosted by The Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course on Aug. 13.
The four-person scramble golf event benefits Pennies for Quarters, a nonprofit working to build communities to house homeless veterans.
Registration starts at noon with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Entries are $100 per player.

Kickball tourney
SEQUIM — The first-ever Rubber Cup kickball tournament will be held Saturday at the Sequim Little League Fields, 124 W. Silberhorn Road.
Some roster spots remain for the tournament, potential players are advised to arrive by 10 a.m.
The tournament kicks off at 11 a.m. with the championship game held at 2:30 p.m.
Concessions will be sold and The Whiskey Wagon will be on site to sell libations.
The event is open to all, funds raised will benefit Sequim’s Level the Field charity, which provides assistance to students who can’t afford extracurricular activities.
West End Thunder
FORKS — West End Thunder of drag racing action at the Forks International Airport.
General admission is $10, kids 11 and younger are free.
Racing fees are $20 for daily drivers and motorcycles, $40 for all other race classes.
All racers also must purchase a club membership for $25 per season.
