Lifeguard trainings set for Sequim Y

SEQUIM — Two lifeguard certification courses will be hosted by the YMCA of Sequim this summer.

The courses includes two online systems, classroom training and pool sessions.

Pre-class swim workouts are available for anyone who needs to improve their swim skills.

Completion of the class will provide a Lifeguard Certification plus CPR, First Aid, AED and Emergency Oxygen certifications.

Registration is open through June 8 for the first session, set June 21-23 and 29-30.

Registration is open through July 20 for the second session, set Aug. 3-4, 10-11 and 17.

Students must be age 16 by the final day of class, complete the swim test by the registration date and the online learning system by the first day of training.

Run/Walk for Justin

CHIMACUM — Registration is underway for the Run/Walk for Justin, a 5K/10K and virtual race to support 2012 Chimacum High School graduate Justin Morris set for Aug. 3.

Born and raised in Chimacum, Morris is now married with a young daughter and works as a corrections officer while living in Ellensburg.

Morris was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and his treatments are all located in western Washington.

The run/walk is designed to raise funds to support travel and living expenses for Morris.

Kids ages 12 and younger are free to participate alongside a guardian.

The course will start and end at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chimacum, 10104 Rhody Drive, and will be an out-and-back through neighboring HJ Carroll Park on crushed gravel.

There will be water on the course and snacks at the finish line.

Summer hoops camp

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Basketball will host summer youth basketball camps for boys entering grades 3-5 and 6-8 this fall from July 15-18 at Port Angeles High School.

Incoming students in grades 3-5 will attend from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Students entering sixth through eighth grades will go from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $75 per camper and registration and payment will be taken at the door via credit/debit card or check made out to Port Angeles Boys Basketball.

PA wrestling camp

PORT ANGELES — The 2024 Gene Mills Pin 2 Win Wrestling Camp will be hosted by Port Angeles Wrestling from July 17-19.

The camp will be held at Stevens Middle School, 1139 W. 14th St., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This camp is open to wrestlers in grades six and up or those with two or more years of wrestling experience.
