Lefties fall 1-0 in a pitchers’ duel, drop Sox series

WENATCHEE — Port Angeles was again the hard-luck loser as Wenatchee won the team’s three-game series with a 1-0 West Coast League baseball win Thursday night.

The Lefties and Apple Sox each scored five runs across the three-game set.

Colby Scheuber was the hard-luck loser on the mound for Port Angeles. Scheuber did his job, tossing six innings and allowing one earned run on three hits and walk while striking out three to bring his ERA down to 2.77 on the summer.

He allowed the lone run in the fourth, yielding a one-out walk to Marcus Harrison and a Nick Putnam double back-to-back, followed by a sacrifice fly from Austin Ohland.

Brock Mayer also threw two clean innings with two strikeouts for the Lefties.

Port Angeles had four hits, all singles, from Roberto Nunez, Trent Jackson, Owen Alsup and Derek Gifford.

The Lefties (8-15) are at Nanaimo today at 1:05 p.m. in a Canada Day contest.
