Youth hoops, youth wrestling program registration available

Junior basketball registration in Jefferson County

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County Parks and Recreation’s Junior Hoops Basketball registration is underway until Nov. 1.

Open to all county boys and girls, the program includes levels for Pre-K/Kinder ($60 with custom T-shirt); first and second grade ($65 with shirt); third/fourth and fifth/sixth grades ($90 and includes a numbered, reversible jersey, $65 if you already have a jersey).

Volunteer coaches are needed.

Preseason coaches meetings will be held at the Rec Center, 620 Tyler St. at 5:30 p.m. (Pre-K through 2nd grade) and 6:30 p.m. (third through sixth grades) Nov. 8.

Team rosters, equipment and relevant information will be distributed.

Archery for children

SEQUIM — Mount Olympus Territory Cub Scouts will hold an archery shooting event at the Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 Macleay Road, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 30.

The event is free and open to the public.

Children ages 5 and older can participate with a signed permission slip from a parent/guardian. Registration can be done on site.

There will be bow and arrow and sling shot activities, the sling shot requires assistance from a parent/guardian.

Range masters from the Seattle Cub Scout Council will be on hand to demonstrate and assist.

Open mat times

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Wrestling Club is holding open mat sessions for high-school age athletes at the club wrestling building, 112 N. Lincoln St., every Monday and Friday at 5 p.m.

Youth wrestling club

PORT ANGELES — In-person registration for Port Angeles Wrestling Club’s winter season will be held at the club’s new location on the second floor at 112 Lincoln St. from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 30 and Nov 2.

The club is open to boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade with practices held twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays. Wrestlers ages 5 through 8 and first-year 9-year-olds will practice from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with second-year 9-year-olds and 10-and-older from 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

Registration is $100 per wrestler and includes a club T-shirt and a USA Wrestling membership card.

The season runs from Nov. 6 through Feb. 15 and includes optional weekend tournaments.

An advanced/competitive group also will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays. The cost is $150.

Discounts are available for families with three or more participants and scholarships also are available.

Cedars Women’s game

SEQUIM — The Cedars at Dungeness Women’s Golf Association played a game of Selective 9 this week, choosing two par-3 holes, four par-4s and three par-5s to come up with a toal and subtracting half a players’ handicap from that number.

Yoon Park birdied two holes, No. 12 and 16, on her way to winning the First Division Net with a score of 30.5 to edge Linda Hash and Kim Mishko, who each posted 33.5.

Park also had low putts with 27 to Mishko’s 30.

Barb Burrows was the Second Division winner with 31.5, squeaking by Bev Handshumaker’s 32.

Anne Elwell had low putts with 28, Handshumaker coming in second with 31.

Other birdies were sank by Lisa Ballantyne on No. 17, Lisa Chon on No. 8 and Burrows on No. 6.
