Hash claims Cedars women’s President’s Cup

SEQUIM — The Cedars at Dungeness Women’s Golf Club has been busy for more than a month with match play competition for their annual President’s Cup. The tournament wrapped July 2 with Linda Hash coming out on top and Marlene Erickson the runner-up.

Club play continued on to Monthly Medal Play with Emily Cook shooting an 83 to take the First Flight’s low gross honors, with Hash ending up with low net of 76, while Marine Hirschfeld was second at 77.

Cook also came within 10-feet, 10-inches for the closest-to-the-pin honor on No. 8, while Hash’s approach came 17-8 from the hole on No. 17. Hash also made the birdie putt following her approach.

Wanda Synnestvedt earned the low-putt title with 31, while Jane Peoples had 33.

In the Second Flight, Pat Harrop-Schumacher shot an 94 for low gross, Ann Rosecrants shot 73 for low net and Kim Mishko was right behind her with a 74 for second place.

Lori Oakes totaled 30 putts, with Harrop-Schumacher runner-up at 32.

Oakes had the hot hand on the KP holes, coming within 10-1 on No. 8 16-3 on No. 17.

Oakes took the 1st Place putting honor with 30 putts and Pat Harrop-Schumacher took 2nd place with 32 putts.

Birdies were made by Hirschfeld on hole No. 4, Cook on No. 8 and No. 11 and Hash on 17.

One chip-in was made by Harrop-Schumacher on No. 9.

Youth golf camp

PORT TOWNSEND — Free three-day youth golf clinics are planned this summer at Camas Prairie Golf Park, formerly the Port Townsend Golf Course.

The clinic is for ages 8-11 Monday through Wednesday.

Shooting clinic, camp

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Basketball will host two summer camps, a shooting clinic for players entering grades 4-8 and 9-12 from Monday through Wednesday and a skills camp for boys and girls in grades 3-5 and 6-8 from July 21-24 at Port Angeles High School.

For the shooting clinic, grades 4-8 will attend from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the high-schoolers set for 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $75 for the shooting clinic.

For the basketball camp, incoming students in grades 3-5 will attend from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Students entering sixth through eighth grades will attend from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $100 for the basketball camp.

All players will receive a camp T-shirt, with games, contests and four days of instruction planned.

Volleyball camp

SEQUIM — Registration is underway for a pair of volleyball camps offered by Momentum One Volleyball Academy at the Sequim High School gym Aug. 4-7.

Those who sign up by Monday will receive a camp T-shirt.

Players entering grades 9-12 will train from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Players entering grades seven and eight will attend from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The cost is $120 per person.

The final registration deadline is Aug. 1.
