Former Rider named Oregon’s AD of the Year

GRESHAM, Ore. — Port Angeles High School alumni Daunte Gouge was honored as Oregon’s Class 5A Athletic Director of the Year at the Oregon Athletic Directors’ Conference held last month at Sunriver, Ore.

Gouge is the athletic director/assistant principal at Centennial High School, an 1,800-student school in Gresham, Ore.

A multi-sport athlete at Port Angeles, Gouge graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1988 where he was a four-year track and field letterman under coaches Bill Tiderman, Dwayne Johnson and Bob Sheedy.

Gouge ran track at Seattle Pacific University and started his teaching and coaching career at King’s High School in Shoreline in 1993.

He’s also a member of the Washington State Track and Field Coaches Hall of Fame.

Gouge is the brother of current Port Angeles team physician/softball assistant coach Dr. Dirk Gouge.

Rhody Run sign up

PORT TOWNSEND — Registration for the 2024 Jefferson Healthcare Rhody Run is open through Thursday.

The Rhody Run, which includes a 10-kilometer run, a 5K and a free kids run for ages 5 and under is set May 19.

Registration is $48.70 with fees included for the 10K and the 5K.

Local 155 on top

PORT ANGELES — Local 155 earned an 11-6 win over Athletes’ Choice in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth baseball action at Volunteer Park.

Carson Waddell got the start on the bump for Local followed by Felix Gonzales with Asher Irvine closing out the game for the Local 155 boys and the trio combined to toss seven strikeouts while only giving up four hits.

Alik Ross and Waddell lead the charge offensively for Local 155, picking up two hits apiece with Waddell scoring two runs.

Felix Gonzales, Irvine, Jaron Tolliver, Landon Eastman and Brayden Scott also recorded hits and Eastman scored three runs.

Defense was also on display with Local 155 logging 14 putouts on the night.

For Athletes’ Choice Andre Campbell, Zach Debray, Ben Clemons and Koby Helvey all picked up hits.

Rhody Fest golf

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Golf Park will host the 2024 annual Rhododendron Festival golf tournaments May 18-19.

Both events will start at 9 a.m.

A two-person nine-hole scramble will be held May 18, leaving enough time to attend the Festival Grand Parade.

A two-person best ball 18-hole tournament will be held May 19.

Players can sign up at the club house or call 360-385-4547.
