AREA SPORTS: Five Lincoln Park BMX riders off to Worlds

PORT ANGELES ­— Five Lincoln Park BMX riders are prepping for the BMX World Championship coming up in Copenhagen, Denmark from July 28-30. More than 3,000 racers from around the world are expected to compete as the Lincoln Park riders will be part of Team USA.

Port Angeles’ Kylin Weitz will compete in the 12 girls and 12 girls cruiser categories. Teyah Elofson-Cross, also of Port Angeles, will compete in the 13 girls and 13-16 girls cruiser categories.

Elinor Christensen is one of three Kingston family members who will be in Copenhagen. They all compete at Lincoln Park as their home track. Elinor Christensen will compete in the 11 girls category, while Warren Christensen will compete in the 9 boys category.

Wyatt Christensen is currently the No. 1-ranked rider in the world and will be defending his title in the 13 boys category. All the riders will be leaving about seven to 10 days prior to the world championships to train with the other members of Team USA.

Wilder Sr. wins

KELSO — Wilder Senior won its opening game of the Babe Ruth Senior Pacific Northwest Region tournament Monday 11-1 over the Hitmen U18 team.

The duo of Brayden Martin and Landen Olson allowed just two hits and struck out 10 in just five innings of work. Martin struck out nine in four innings.

At the plate, Braydan White went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Kody Williams was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Alex Angevine and Rylan Politika each hit doubles, with Politika adding two runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases. Lincoln Bear had a hit, two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Wilder Senior (24-6-1), which has won five straight, plays its second game of the tournament at 1 p.m. today against the Roosters 18U team.
