PORT HADLOCK — East Jefferson Little League will recognize outgoing board members, including long-time board president Kenny Yingling, as well as dedicate a memorial in memory of Dave Garing and his family’s contributions to the league during its baseball and softball jamboree Saturday.
The jamboree will run from noon to 3 p.m. at East Jefferson’s Bob Bates Field, 200 Elkins Road.
Opening ceremonies will run from noon to 12:30 p.m. with scrimmage games following from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Yingling will receive a special thank you for his efforts as board president during the event.
The league’s concession stand also will be open and serving treats to raise funds for the league.
NOL track meet
CRESCENT — Crescent’s boys and girls swept the first North Olympic League track meet of the year with the Loggers’ boys edging Neah Bay 52-41 and the girls also winning a close one, 52-46 over the Red Devils.
Conner Ferro-May led the way for Crescent, claiming the shot put with a personal record of 34 feet, 4 inches and the discus with a PR of 109-8.
Devon Halttunen (13.41 seconds) edged Jaden Halttunen (13.42) by one-tenth of a second in the boys 100-meter sprint. Devon Halttunen also won the 200 in 28.83 and teamed with Jaden, Landon Brady and Makyah Chambers to take the 4×100 relay in 52.96.
William Hull won two events while setting personal bests for Clallam Bay, taking the 400 (1:05.36) and the 1,600 (5:57.98).
Girls meet
Loggers eighth-grader Naomii Sprague won the 100 in 14.91 seconds and took the long jump with a distance of 13-10 while freshman Katelyn Dunavant won the shot put with a personal-best 27-3 and the discus (78-1).
Neah Bay sophomore Ryana Moss won twice, taking the 200 in 32.51 and the 1,600 in 6:30.18.
Freshman Abigail Flores claimed the javelin with a throw of 78-2 for Clallam Bay.
Local edges Athlete’s
PORT ANGELES — Pitchers Bryce DeLeon, Alex Angevine and Brandt Perry combined on the mound for 16 strikeouts and just three walks as Local 155 edged Athlete’s Choice 5-3 on opening night of the Olympic Junior Babe Ruth baseball season at Volunteer Park.
Chris Jaynes went 2-for-2 and scored twice to lead Local 155 at the plate while teammate Cole Beeman added two hits, including a double along with a run scored.
Beeman also made a great defensive play, throwing out the runner at home plate to end Athlete’s threat in the sixth inning, according to coach Mike Mudd.
DeLeon, Brian Belbin and Jaron Tolliver also recorded hits for Local 155.
Nathan Basden, Josiah Gooding and Dillon Mann all had hits for Athlete’s Choice.
