AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Wilder Sr. wins finale in Selah; Local 155, Athlete’s Choice to play for championship

SELAH — Wilder Sr. won its final game at the Selah tournament late Sunday, erupting for seven runs in the fourth to crush Whatcom Post No. 7 10-2.

With the win, Wilder Sr. (6-2) split four games in Selah.

A quartet of Wilder pitchers — Alex Angevine, Josiah Gooding, Elijah Flodstrom and Brayden White — gave up just five hits and three walks. Wilder Sr. also made zero errors.

At the plate, Angevine was 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, while Tate Alton was 2-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and two RBIs. Gooding hit a double and had a run and an RBI, while Brayden Hagerty was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Wilder Sr. returns home to play four games at Civic Field this weekend. They will play a doubleheader against Lakeside Recovery Senior at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and a doubleheader versus Lakeside Recovery Elite at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday.

Wilder Senior also beat Whatcom Post No. 7 6-3, and lost to Yakima Valley 8-0 and to the Columbia Basin RiverDogs 8-4 on Saturday.

PORT ANGELES — Local 155 beat Beaver 8-1 in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth play Saturday at Volunteer Park, improving its record to 12-1.

The win sets up the Les Shore Memorial championship game between league champs Local 155 and second-place finisher Athletes Choice at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Volunteer park.

Local 155 took the lead on a balk call and a single by Felix Gonzales in the first inning, then added five runs in the third inning. Chris Jaynes, Ethan Barbre, Jaron Tolliver and Ian Smithson all moved runners across the plate with RBIs. Gonzales and Smithson both had multiple hits.

Brandt Perry got the start for Local 155. He went five innings, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out 11. Bryce DeLeon finished, going the last two innings. The duo allowed three hits and combined for 15 strikeouts.

Buba Hernandez led Beaver by going 2-for-3.

Cedars Women

SEQUIM — The Cedars at Dungeness Women’s Golf Association took to the links after being sidelined on their usual Tuesday day of play as the course hosted the 7 Cedars Senior Washington Open last week.

The group played Chicago Putts on June 2, with competition points earned for sinking putts.

Marine Hirschfeld claimed the first division with 47 points (31 putts), while Yoon Park returned to the group with 38 points and 37 putts.

Hirschfeld also stuck her ball within 21 inches of the hole to win the No. 4 hole KP. Park was 3½ feet on No. 11 for the KP.

Bev Handshumaker was the second division leader with 43 points (34) with Cathy Grant in second with 38 (39).

Park and Linda Hash each birdied the No. 11 hole.

Lori Wyngaert was the closest to the pin on No. 11 for the second division.

Seventeen women played in the group’s Monthly Medal play round last Tuesday.

Park won the nine-woman first division with a gross round of 84, including a chip-in birdie on No. 11. She also had low putts (27), beating out Hirschfeld (29). Anne Elwell (72) and Hash (75) were first and second net, respectively.

Barb Burrows’ gross 98 led the eight-player second division. Wyngaert led the way with a net 74 and Grant was second (76).

Jane Peoples also birdied the sixth hole.

KP’s were won by Park on No. 8 (17 feet, 6 inches), Peoples on No. 17 (24-1) and Linda Beatty (39-6) and Carin Burney No. 17 (5-3).
